How to Update iTunes

This manual guide describes how to perform troubleshooting when you see an error message saying Unlocking failed. iTunes software update is required to connect to this device.

In general cases, this error is caused by outdated, malfunctioning or intact iTunes components. It usually occurs if your Mac is running macOS 10.13 and older versions.

It's easy to fix the error because you're only required to update your iTunes software version. By doing so, all iTunes related drivers and components will also get updated to the latest version.
